A TOP lance for oxygen blowing onto the liquid steel recirculating within an RH vessel was already implemented in a Thyssen RH facility in Germany in the late sixties. In the nineties, lance types with multiple functions were developed to incorporate further features with new operational benefits. 50 TOP lances have been installed so far, many of them incorporating the multiple function design.
