POWDER BLOWING SYSTEMS – DEEP INJECTION

Powder blowing via immersed refractory lances can be used for effective steel desulfurization treatment of several atmospheric secondary metallurgical processes like ladle furnaces, chemical heating stations and ladle treatment stations.

CaC2, Mixtures of Lime, Fluorspar, CaSi, or artificial slag are injected by using either argon or nitrogen.

The well proven technological equipment includes:
  • Powder storage bins
  • Injection dispensers
  • Conveying lines
  • Injection lance hoisting / swivelling device for manual or automatic lance exchange

By means of deep injection very low sulphur levels beyond standard slag-metal treatments can be reached.

BENEFITS OF POWDER BLOWING SYSTEMS:

  • Deep injection for extended contact time between liquid steel and powdered agent for excellent yield
  • In combination with high sulphur capacity of the top slag ultra low sulphur levels can be reached i.e. [S] < 10 ppm
  • Additional functions are
    • – emergency stirring in case of porous plug failure
      with top argon lance
    • – strong stirring to enhance slag-metal reactions
      with top argon lance

SUMMARY

  • Provides additional functions
  • Extended metallurgical functionality of secondary metallurgy units
  • Production of ultra low sulphur steel grades
  • Reliable proven technology
  • System set-up according to individual process requirements
  • Integration into existing facilities such as LF, CHS and LTS
